M. I. A.

By Cathy Haymore

All the M.I.A.s are not still missing --

Many are present and accounted for;

Carried on the morning report as able

To take up arms, and continue the war.

Victims of Vietnam as if the war

Was yesterday, and they just now leaving

Their future hopes, for  families and homes;

To begin their long process of grieving.

Entombed in their psyches -- disbelieving;

Walking the walk of dead men in their bones.

Prisoners of Ho Chi Minh’s relentless time

Both feet on solid ground -- but hearts alone.

They are awol in  their unconscious minds

For their brothers and friends they left behind.
